After having cancer you really start to hear all the advice rolling in on how eating right will either cure it or make it never come back. I have had many comments about not having chemo but just eating strange health foods to get well. Those comments are frankly silly to me. This cancer was invasive and killing me. I didn't have 3 weeks left to live according to the specialist I saw. I had not only my husband and myself to think of but three children and one growing inside of me. I knew there was no magic cure. There was no special food that would make this cancer go away. Honestly I found it insulting that someone would endanger my life just to promote their diet.
Now I didn't get many of those bits of advice but they are out there. Do I believe in eating right? Yes I do. I also believe that you live once. You can't go through your whole life eating roots and leaves and twigs. I need substance. I will try to give up things that are terrible for me. But you know what? Every now and again I may eat something fried. *gasp* I eat red meat on occasion. I will enjoy it. I don't want to get to the end of my days and not have enjoyed it. I don't believe you should live on those foods and I think you need to incorporate the good things into your diet. I believe you should get more of the good stuff than the bad stuff...but you know I truly do not believe that any food is bad in moderation. I think it's not the food that is bad but our own greediness that is bad. We can't have just a little portion we need more and more. That's the problem. I am trying to give up my diet Pepsi and not doing too bad mind you! I am getting more and more and water. I'll never totally give up the diet Pepsi. haha I'll reduce and have the occasional splurge.
In a nutshell I basically feel these restrictive diets to prevent cancer or to cure it are unrealistic. If I had a terminal cancer perhaps I might feel differently but you know, even then I think I would just be content to live out what I had left of my life as happy as I could. I am an advocate of eating healthy but I am also an advocate of everything in moderation.
I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma just 2 weeks after learning I was pregnant with my fourth child. I was able to have chemotherapy while I was pregnant, deliver a healthy baby and eventually graduate from Nursing School. Class of December 2011! I am now 13 years in remission and my little girl Gabbi is 13 old. This blog tells our story.

I Say Drink Up!!
I am a coffee drinker. I have become more of a coffee drinker in the past couple of years. I used to drink it on occasion and now I have it every morning. I sometimes feel guilty about about having all the caffeine and I do force myself to drink more water. I am not much of a water drinker at all. Now I have heard the occasional good thing about coffee. I want to point out though that anything in excess can be problematic so don't go over board or anything of course. Still I have heard good things and now this one takes the cake. Coffee may help keep skin cancer away. You read that right. According to MSNBC caffeine kills off human cells damaged by ultraviolet light. Rather than quote the whole article I'll link you to it. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29409056/.
This is interesting to me. I like the idea of coffee fighting off cells damaged by the sun. I know there are all kinds of ideas out there on how to fight cancer. There wasn't a thing I could do about mine. We still have no idea what causes it. If I had some clue maybe I could feel like I was doing something to prevent it from recurring...but really what can I do? There isn't a thing and it's a helpless feeling. So in the mean time I do like reading about how to just take care of my body and preventative measures I can take to prevent cancer in general.
Penmanship Tag and Awards!! Lots of Them :)
OK. I am going to try and post all of these. I get behind. I want to do them all at once, then I lose track of some of them. So here goes. First off is a Penmanship Tag that I got from Jess over at Me, Myself and Jes. You must know first off that my handwriting is awful. I used to have decent handwriting but over the years and scrawling out checks and signatures for kids papers and signing permission slips etc, my handwriting has become more of an illegible doctor's signature sort of deal. Regardless, be kind at my cursive/print combination disaster! haha
Instructions:
1. Write down who tagged you.
2. Answer these:
- your name / username / pseudo
- right-handed or left-handed?
- your favorite letters to write?
- your least favorite letters to write?
Write “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.”
3. Tag five persons.
Now as for those I tagged I will type those, since there is a good chance you have NO idea what it says. haha
1. The Chickenista
2. I Kicked Cancer's Ass (Meaghen)
3. Confessions of a Female Hockey Fan

My Story is Featured!
I am honored to have my blog featured on a wonderful blog called Aberration Nation. I was contacted a few weeks ago about being interviewed for a story to be featured on her site. I want nothing more than to get our story out there. I want everyone to know all hope is not lost if you receive a cancer diagnosis while pregnant. I also want everyone to realize chemotherapy can indeed be done during pregnancy safely contrary to popular belief. Any way shape or form we can get this out there, I want to do. So it is with great pleasure I ask you to go read our story and share your comments. Again thank you to Aberration Nation for featuring mine and Gabriella's story.

Procrastination and a Cute Baby
First of all, that's a picture of me in my new glasses. I don't wear them often. So that's a pretty rare sight. I however do like these ones! It's my first new pair in 7 years or so.
I have been really putting off calling my doctor. I am not sure why but I guess since it's not until May anyway I figured I'd have plenty of time. I need to call and reschedule my follow up. I need to make sure we reschedule both of the upcoming scans and oncology follow up for the same day. You might think they would take care of all that but no. They will have no clue that my scans are still on a different day. I can't drive up there multiple times. It's a good 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive. So I need to really kick myself into high gear today. I have more things to do that I dread. I dread calling my credit card company. I need to do that. They are trying to steal a payment but won't get away with it since I have all the proof but unfortunately they don't put anyone on the phone I can understand. I feel rude because I have a very tough time with accents. I just can't do it though. It's a flaw of mine I guess.
As for the cute baby, well of course we all know I am talking about my sweet miracle baby Gabriella. I bought a nice wig when I first started chemo at the suggestion of my oncologist. The chemo I had should have made me bald. I never did lose it all so I didn't need this wig. I got it out yesterday and put it on my baby who doesn't have much hair yet. She loved it and stared at herself in the mirror! haha It was pretty cute.

Snow???? Seriously? Yes. Snow.....and Sea Monkeys
Seriously my mind can go from one thing to the next. Snow and sea monkeys have nothing to do with each other. It's just that we have both! I woke up this morning to what you see here. This is my back yard. We had 70 degree weather recently, and now we have a winter storm. Did I get my calender wrong or is it supposed to be spring? Well, needless to say the roads were pretty bad. I had planned on taking the kids to the free matinee today. Kung Fu Panda was playing for free. We decided to give it a try. The hubby drove and didn't find it too difficult, but honestly if it were me I'd have turned back. We saw at least 5 cars ditched on the way there with people inside. They all had help already thank goodness. I think perhaps people are in too much of a hurry on these roads!
So after all that we get to the theater and I order our tickets only for them to say they were sold out!!! Uuuugh! I had never had that happen before. So instead of having driven all the way there for no reason we dug into our wallets and spent the last of our cash to take the girls to see Monsters Versus Aliens. It was a pretty good movie and Gabriella's first trip to the movie theater! She seemed very fascinated by it all. She did well too. She watched it and I fed her fruit loops. haha That's her favorite snack.
As for the sea monkeys, well I bought Lexi some for her birthday. There had been probably a hundred in this little tank but they were so tiny you could hardly see them. Now there are only about 5 and they have gotten pretty big, as you an see in my pics. They are fun but really do not seem to last too long.
Now, as for this snow, well I'd like it to go away. I want spring. No more teasing me!! ;)
